Pike's Peak Region

Like rockets launched against a distant enemy, stars hurtle to the west in this view of the Pike's Peak region from the Puma Hills near Wilkerson Pass.  Thunderclouds that passed earlier now lay over the cities of Colorado Springs (left) and Pueblo, reflecting their light.
